Despite the presence of Nigerian Army personnel stationed in the affected communities, reports of further arrivals of suspicious individuals continue to surface. These men, believed to be from the Sahel, have been suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities under the radar.

Obol Okoi Obono-Obla, a lawyer and former presidential aide, voiced his concerns after encountering several foreign miners and illegal immigrants in neighboring areas. He emphasized that national security must take precedence over individual freedom of movement in times of heightened insecurity.

Obono-Obla pointed out the failure of the NIS and DSS to effectively monitor the movement of people, stressing the importance of their intervention in this matter. He urged the authorities to regulate and closely monitor foreign arrivals to prevent any further security breaches.

Adding to the alarm, Ibor Benji, a youth leader from Mkpani, revealed that the influx of foreign miners has become a critical issue. He recounted how locals from Agoi Ibami were allegedly involved in smuggling suspected foreign miners into the forest, with claims that financial inducements may have played a role.

The mass arrivals continue to be a pressing concern, yet the authorities, including the Nigerian Army and state security officials, have yet to respond effectively to the situation.

As the security threat looms larger, it is clear that more proactive measures are needed to protect the community and the nation as a whole.
