During the Friday audience, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria has endured challenging times and reiterated his administration’s commitment to preventing the promotion of terrorism. He acknowledged the Finnish government’s intervention in the Ekpa situation, stating that his government will not tolerate actions or rhetoric that could foster division among citizens.

Tinubu remarked, “Nigeria is indivisible, and we have been through turbulent times. We do not wish to promote terrorism. I have roots in activism, but not in divisiveness. Our focus must be on unity and cooperation to drive development.”

The President highlighted the importance of stability and cohesion for the nation’s advancement. He further asserted the significance of the rule of law in safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic values.

Addressing the ambassador’s priorities in areas such as ICT, agriculture, and education, President Tinubu noted that these initiatives would have a positive impact on Nigeria’s development. He also extended his appreciation for Finland’s humanitarian support in Nigeria’s North East geopolitical region.

Ambassador Selin commended the President for his courageous reforms aimed at boosting the economy and fostering future prosperity. She indicated that Ekpa’s actions had previously strained bilateral relations, but expressed optimism for improved cooperation moving forward.

“Simon Ekpa’s actions hindered our bilateral relations, but we are now on a positive trajectory. The collaboration between Finland and Nigeria is progressing well,” Selin stated.

In addition, President Tinubu received Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of the European Union, Gautier Mignot, and the Ambassador of Algeria, Hocine Mezoued. During his interactions with Mignot, Tinubu acknowledged the EU as a significant trading partner and urged increased cooperation to enhance economic transactions.

The President called for support in digitizing Nigeria’s operations, emphasizing the nation’s youthful population as a key factor for economic growth.

Mignot highlighted Nigeria’s “untapped potential” and stressed the importance of development cooperation through technology.

In his meeting with Ambassador Mezoued, President Tinubu advocated for collaboration on the Trans-Saharan African Gas Pipeline project, emphasizing the need for African nations to uplift one another for collective strength.

Mezoued conveyed greetings from the Algerian President, affirming Algeria’s commitment to assist Nigeria in improving livelihoods across the continent through multilateral cooperation.
