The CoHD is defined as the most economical combination of locally available food items that align with globally recognized dietary guidelines, excluding transportation and meal preparation costs.

The NBS utilized data on Retail Food Prices, Food Composition, and Healthy Diet Standards to calculate the CoHD indicator. Notably, the average CoHD was highest in the southwest region at N1,157 per adult per day, closely followed by the southeast at N1,077. Conversely, the North-West region reported the lowest average CoHD at N723 per adult daily.

At the state level, Ekiti, Lagos, and Osun emerged with the highest CoHD figures, recording N1,295, N1,195, and N1,184, respectively. On the other hand, Katsina had the lowest CoHD at N673, trailed by Sokoto and Zamfara at N714 and N720, respectively.

The report also highlighted that animal-source foods represented the most expensive food group recommendation to meet in February, constituting 38% of the total CoHD expenditure to provide 13% of the total calories.
