NDLEA Arrests 18-Year-Old Nigerien, Two Others for Possession of Illicit Drugs in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an 18-year-old Nigerien, Mohammed Isah, for unlawful possession of illicit drugs. The arrest was announced by the State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyefu, during the presentation of his first monthly operational scorecard in Benin City. Isah was apprehended during a raid in the Oluku area of the city, where he was found in possession of 4 grams of methamphetamine, 54 grams of cannabis sativa, 6 grams of tramadol 100mg, and 28 grams of Exol-5.

In a related development, the agency also arrested two other suspects in connection with illicit drug activities. Isaac Israel, a 33-year-old man from Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and 19-year-old Precious Zion, a female from Ogba Local Government Area of Rivers State, were arrested following the interception of 74 and a half bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,115 kilograms at Oke community in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, based on an intelligence report.

Commander Ofoyefu emphasized the direct connection between drug trafficking and violent crimes and reiterated that drug control efforts are essential to supporting Governor Monday Okpebholo’s agenda against kidnapping and cultism in the state. He stated that the Edo Command of the NDLEA will remain committed to ensuring a secure society and will continue to adopt proactive strategies aimed at reducing the negative impact of drug trafficking on local economies, investment opportunities, and the burden it places on law enforcement and healthcare systems.

The commander called for coordinated efforts and greater community involvement to combat the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking. He advocated for better resource allocation and emphasized that the fight against drugs requires cooperation from all sectors of society. He also reaffirmed the agency’s determination to protect the youth from the devastating consequences of addiction and drug-related criminal activities.
