Netizens Outraged By Ighodalo’s Campaign Video: Playing With Impoverished Kids Amidst The Inept PDP Administration Led By Obaseki

A video showing People’s Democratic Party’s Gubernatorial Candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and his campaign team visiting a prominent internally displaced person camp in Benin City, Edo State, has sparked widespread backlash online. The clip, which has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, has prompted a flood of critical comments from Netizens across social media platforms, who are quick to highlight the disconnect between Ighodalo’s public display and the reality of his past actions.
The infamous video exposes Asue Ighodalo’s façade as a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing,’ and Edolites were quick to denounce his hypocrisy.
The footage has drawn sharp attention to the dire conditions of the impoverished children that Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, was seen feigning concern for in the IDP camp. Despite the PDP administration, led by Ighodalo’s ally Governor Obaseki, receiving over 15,000 bags of rice since May last year, the stark reality remains that these resources have not reached those in need. This raises a critical question: What has become of these thousands of bags of rice if they haven’t benefited the children and adults in IDP camps, nor struggling Edolites who own homes? It’s worth noting that Obaseki has recently come under scrutiny for allegedly diverting these palliatives for political gain, adding to the growing frustration and skepticism among the people.
Edolites are demanding answers to pressing questions: “Where was Ighodalo’s compassion while he was enjoying the perks of a corrupt banking system as chairman of Sterling Bank?” “What about his empathy during his roles in both Adams Oshiomhole’s and Governor Obaseki’s administrations?” “What has he done for his Esan people before launching his gubernatorial bid?” These questions highlight a deep-seated skepticism about Ighodalo’s sincerity and his potential to perpetuate the same failures as the current administration.
For a dose of reality, take a look at the comment section on Asue Ighodalo’s page—where the discontent of Edolites is on full display. The comments are a reminder of the public’s frustration with politicians who, despite their promises, often fall short in delivering real change.
