Nigerian Army Crushes Kidnappers, Rescues Six in Daring Kogi Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade in Lokoja, working in close coordination with other security agencies, have rescued six kidnapped victims in Obajana, Kogi State. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, was carried out without any casualties among the security forces, following what officials described as precise intelligence gathering and swift tactical execution.

Military sources disclosed that the victims were located at a remote hideout in the forest, where they had been held by their abductors. The kidnappers reportedly abandoned the captives and fled with injuries after being overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower, leaving behind ammunition and other belongings.

Among those freed was the Seriki Fulani of Asinwe community in Okehi Local Government Area, who had been abducted from his residence. Four victims were taken on August 12 in Asinwe community, while two others were kidnapped on July 28 in Apata community, Lokoja.

The six victims—comprising four men and two women—were rescued unharmed and are undergoing medical evaluation before reuniting with their families. Security officials have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying counter-kidnapping and anti-banditry operations in Kogi and surrounding states, warning criminal groups to desist or face decisive action.

Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, represented by Lieutenant Colonel Francis Nwoffiah, praised the courage and professionalism of the personnel involved. One of the victims, Mallam Adamu Zage, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, praying for their continued protection and success in safeguarding communities.
