of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.
In the banking sector, the FCCPC will probe Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) over complaints of network failures preventing customers from accessing their funds or using banking applications.
In telecommunications, MTN Nigeria is facing scrutiny for ongoing issues with undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and poor customer service.
The investigation, scheduled to begin on December 3, 4, and 5, aims to address concerns related to poor service, exploitative practices, and potential violations of consumer rights.
Air Peace Limited will also be investigated over allegations of unfair ticket pricing, including significant price increases for advance bookings on certain domestic routes.
The FCCPC explained that the inquiries are being carried out under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) of 2018, which grants the Commission the authority to investigate and resolve issues that harm consumer rights, disrupt markets, or create unfair competition.
The Commission emphasized that these inquiries are an opportunity to address consumer complaints, clarify business practices, and ensure compliance with regulations. Companies will be required to present information and respond to questions on the scheduled dates to help resolve the issues quickly.
“This action reflects our commitment to protecting consumer rights, ensuring a fair marketplace, and holding companies accountable,” the statement concluded. The FCCPC also urged consumers to continue reporting poor service or exploitative practices through its official channels.
