Acting on intelligence, the corps dispatched a team to the area opposite the NNPCL depot at Apir, where they discovered illegal vandalization of an NNPCL pipeline, known as the Yola line.
Commandant Ibrahim stated, “Eleven persons were apprehended at the crime site and they will be taken for questioning and profiling.”
Describing the vandals’ actions as “acts of terrorism” and “economic sabotage,” Ibrahim expressed dismay at the excavation of pipelines stretching over 10km, which he said were being sold for meager amounts.
He expressed concern over the residents’ and traditional rulers’ silence near the incident site, promising investigation if complicity is found.
Ibrahim urged the state’s residents to be more vigilant and mindful of activities in their surroundings.
Recovered items included the vandals’ working equipment along with 16 cut pipelines.
In a separate incident in late April 2024, the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards arrested two pipeline vandals in Yakyor, Apir, after they sold the loot for N400,000 and divided the money among themselves.
