The detention is part of the ongoing probe into the alleged laundering of N37,170,855,753.44 within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, during the tenure of former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouk.

According to exclusive reports from Ireporteronline, EFCC operatives stormed NSIPA’s office in the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, on Tuesday morning, driving Shehu to the EFCC headquarters. As of the latest update on Tuesday night, Shehu was still being detained and interrogated by EFCC officials.

Sources within the anti-graft agency, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that Shehu was implicated in the alleged fraud as the former National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme under the Ministry. President Bola Tinubu, in response to the allegations, suspended Shehu from office on Tuesday.

The investigation also involves summoning the former Minister, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, to appear before EFCC investigators on Wednesday for questioning regarding the alleged money laundering case. The former minister is expected to provide an account of the financial irregularities that occurred during her tenure.

The document sent to Umar-Farouk read: “The commission is investigating a case of money laundering involving the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development during your time as Minister.”
