Addressing journalists on Thursday at the PDP secretariat in Umuahia after a stakeholders’ meeting, the Vice Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, emphasized that the party has learned from its mistakes and is committed to making necessary changes. Amah assured that the PDP is ready to correct past wrongs and chart a new course.

“We have learned from our enormous mistakes and are committed to doing things differently this time,” Amah said. He added that the party, which remains intact across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas, is optimistic about its future, especially with new political heavyweights expected to join in the coming days.

Responding to questions about recent defections, Amah likened the situation to an Iroko tree shedding its dried leaves to make way for fresh growth. “It is customary for an Iroko tree to shed its leaves during the dry season. That doesn’t mean the end of the tree, but to create an avenue for the tree to grow new leaves,” he explained. He expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger, with new members replacing those who have left.

During the stakeholders’ meeting, the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, vowed to end the era of imposition within the party, promising that members would now have the freedom to choose their leaders.

The Abia State PDP Chairman, Asiforo Okere, urged members to remain resolute and continue supporting the party. He reassured them of the party’s resilience and determination to reclaim its position in the next election cycle.

The meeting marked the first major gathering of PDP stakeholders since their defeat in the 2023 polls, signaling a renewed commitment to reform and revitalization within the party.
