Nigeria’s Power Grid Fails For 11th Time In 2024 – TCN Finally Speaks Out

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained the reasons behind the national grid’s 11th collapse this year, just two days after the previous one. In a statement, Mbah detailed that the frequency surge was linked to an issue at one of TCN’s substations, which had to be shut down to avoid further complications. She noted, “The national grid experienced a disturbance around 11:29 AM, caused by a frequency rise from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz. Recovery efforts were initiated immediately, with the Abuja Axis restored within minutes, though full restoration is ongoing.”

Mrs. Mbah further highlighted that TCN is conducting significant repair work on critical infrastructure, including the 330kV line on the Shiroro-Mando axis, upgrades at the Jebba Substation, and restoration efforts on the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV line. Following recent reports on previous grid collapses, TCN has also started addressing systemic weaknesses.

While TCN is actively working on stabilizing the grid, the spokesperson warned that some instability may continue until the repairs are fully completed. Mbah assured Nigerians of TCN’s dedication to enhancing the reliability of electricity supply and urged for public understanding as these improvements are carried out.
