Night Operation: DSS Crushes Bandit Activity

On Friday night, officers from the Department of State Service (DSS) “neutralized” three notorious bandits in a coordinated ambush in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State…READ MORE…

During the operation, numerous other bandits reportedly escaped into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds, while DSS operatives seized three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles from the fleeing criminals.

Security sources informed Sunday that the successful ambush was the culmination of weeks spent gathering intelligence and intercepting communications among the bandits.

“This operation is just one of several bold actions taken by the DSS in the Northwest and Northeast regions, resulting in the neutralization or capture of numerous bandits who have been terrorizing innocent people. The DSS has also executed several successful missions against the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast,” one source noted.

The intelligence collected by the DSS has significantly aided the military and other security agencies in neutralizing or capturing terrorists across various regions of the country.

“Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Mr. Tosin Ajayi as the Director-General, the DSS has intensified its intelligence-gathering efforts and has been proactive in sharing this intel with the military and other security forces,” a source shared.

This increase in intelligence cooperation has greatly contributed to reducing ambushes on military personnel and has also led to a significant decline in IPOB activities in the Southeast.

A military officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the report, stating, “The successes achieved by the DSS and their support to our operations are significant, particularly since President Tinubu appointed a highly competent leader for the DSS.”

“They have been intentionally discreet about their achievements since the new DSS Director-General is committed to restoring the agency’s historic emphasis on covert operations. However, I can assure you that the DSS has been instrumental in assisting our military efforts.”

In related news, as part of his security reforms, President Tinubu pledged last month to support the DSS in leveraging artificial intelligence to combat insecurity in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the investiture ceremony for graduates of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 17 in Abuja.
