Rivers State Reigns Supreme: Wike Hits Back At Detractors
In response to detractors from Rivers State who claim he has not secured federal projects for the state, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has asserted that Rivers has the highest representation in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet…READ MORE…
At a recent End-of-Year thanksgiving event held by the PDP in Ahoada East, Wike addressed criticisms leveled by former Rivers Governor Celestine Omehia and Uche Secondus, the ex-National Chairman of the PDP. Both have publicly questioned Wike’s contributions to his home state since assuming his ministerial role, particularly during Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s project commissioning ceremonies.
Wike challenged Omehia’s insinuation that he should justify his record as Minister. He criticized both Omehia and Secondus, pointing out Secondus’s past efforts to have his cousin appointed governor, suggesting that their comments stem from personal grievances.
He also urged Governor Fubara to name any new projects he has initiated during his tenure, asserting that many of the ongoing developments were borne out of his own governance.
During the thanksgiving, Wike praised former Deputy Speaker Chibudum Nwuche for his unwavering dedication to the party and his constituents, emphasizing unity in politics. He recalled several infrastructure projects he initiated, including the dualization of roads, and reaffirmed his support for Rivers residents, noting that while he cannot directly funnel FCT funds to Rivers, he remains committed to helping the people of his state.
Wike further claimed, “By the grace of Mr. President, no governor from Rivers has secured more political appointments than I have.” He urged his critics to recognize the political clout Rivers holds in the current administration.
In a warm welcome tribute, Chief Host Nwuche expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing Wike as a key minister and acknowledged his transformative role in Abuja, highlighting the completion of long-overdue projects and Wike’s notable contributions to the development of Rivers State.
The event celebrated both gratitude and progress, with Nwuche affirming that Wike’s governance had indeed changed the narrative for the people of Ekpeye and Engine.
