No Cabinet Reshuffle! Tinubu’s Ministers Ordered To Defend Their Performance
The Nigerian Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu’s recent directive for periodic press briefings by cabinet members is not linked to a potential cabinet reshuffle but rather aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.……READ MORE
Ireporteronline reports that the Federal Government has mandated ministers to hold regular press conferences starting next week to keep Nigerians informed about government policies and activities.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the directive in Abuja, stating that President Tinubu wants ministers to engage the public more actively.
In an interview with Punch, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, reaffirmed that Tinubu has always emphasized accountability among his ministers.
“The President has consistently demanded that ministers provide reports on their work. Some have done so, while others have not. This directive is simply reinforcing that expectation,” Onanuga stated.
He further stressed that the move should not be interpreted as a reassessment of the cabinet or a prelude to a reshuffle but rather as a commitment to keeping the public informed.
An anonymous source close to the President supported this view, stating that the briefings are not meant for evaluation purposes.
“This is not a new practice. Ministers have previously given updates, and this directive is just a continuation. The evaluation of ministers follows a different set of criteria,” the source explained.
