No Visa Needed: 5 African Countries Open To All Africans
According to Ireporter Online, the government of Ghana has announced that it will grant visa-free entry to all African passport holders starting May 25, 2026, in celebration of Africa Day. The policy positions Ghana as the fifth African nation to fully open its borders to African travelers, building on a commitment made by former President Nana Akufo-Addo during his final State of the Nation Address in January 2025.
The announcement was made during a state visit by Emmerson Mnangagwa, with officials noting that while preparatory work had begun under the previous administration, full implementation is now underway. Ghana now joins Benin, The Gambia, Rwanda, and Seychelles as countries offering visa-free access to all African nationals.
Seychelles, widely recognized as a pioneer in visa-free travel, was the first African nation to allow entry to all nationalities without a visa. Known for its pristine beaches, coral reefs, lush forests, and vibrant Creole culture, it remains a major draw for tourists.
The Gambia, often called the “Smiling Coast of Africa,” has offered visa-free access to African travelers since 2019, boasting scenic river views, rich cultural heritage, and a vibrant tourism scene centered around Banjul.
Benin, one of the first countries to remove visa requirements for African visitors, is celebrated for its historical significance, including the Dahomey Kingdom and its Vodun culture, as well as cultural festivals that attract visitors each year.
Rwanda provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry for African Union member states and is known for its clean cities, strong security, and attractions such as gorilla trekking, with Kigali often ranked among Africa’s cleanest capitals.
With Ghana now joining the list, the expansion of visa-free policies across the continent is seen as a major step toward regional integration and supports the broader objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), encouraging greater mobility, tourism, and economic cooperation among African nations.
