Northern Groups Stand Firm: Calls To Sack INEC Boss Yakubu Branded ‘Dangerous’ For Democracy

The Northern groups reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Professor Yakubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, urging all Nigerians to stand by democratic institutions and reject destabilizing efforts. “Let’s work together to build a Nigeria where people’s voices are not only heard but respected,” they emphasized.

A statement from AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima, criticized what he described as “self-serving” politicians pushing for Professor Yakubu’s ouster, warning that their actions risk undermining democracy. The AYCF underscored INEC’s achievements under Yakubu, including enhanced transparency and credibility in recent elections that have garnered praise from both local and international observers.

Salihu Suleiman, Chairman of NAN, expressed concern that such calls represent more than a personal attack on Professor Yakubu, noting they pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic foundation.
