Northern Youths Group Slams Sule Lamido Over Attacks On Obasanjo, Jonathan, Atiku

the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, calling him a “small boy in PDP history” and questioning his role during the party’s formation in 1999.

In a statement issued on Sunday, signed by Chairman Mallam Ishaya Jato, the NYM reminded Lamido that those he dismissed as “children” played a crucial role in keeping the PDP afloat during its difficult years, especially after the 2014 rebellion in which Lamido himself had been involved before backing out.

The group questioned Lamido’s credibility, pointing out that after serving as both Minister and Governor for eight years, he could find no one else in Jigawa to present as the PDP governorship candidate except his own son.

“If Lamido, who became a political elder at 50, views 57-year-old Wike as a ‘small boy,’ what does that make him after 36 years as an elder?” the group asked, jokingly referring to Lamido as an “ancestral PDP elder.”

The NYM also accused Lamido of disparaging former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, by making similarly dismissive comments about them.

“Two years ago, Lamido called Obasanjo an ‘unknown prisoner’ when the PDP was founded, yet he later criticized Obasanjo for speaking down on people,” the statement noted. “In 2019, he belittled Atiku, calling him his junior in politics, and as a sitting PDP governor, he frequently criticized President Jonathan’s administration.”

The group added that Lamido’s continued disparagement of former leaders, especially after the 2023 elections, stems from his frustration over the loss of the presidency by Atiku, whom they claim was misled into believing he was the “President-in-Waiting.”

The NYM concluded by asserting that Lamido’s ongoing attacks on Wike and other governors like Seyi Makinde and Samuel Ortom, who refused to be treated like subordinates in their own party, were motivated by personal frustration and political defeat.
