This revelation follows recent alarms from the House of Representatives, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), and prominent northern leaders, calling for urgent action against the cross-border infiltration.

The Senate commended the military for its swift actions against insurgency but urged greater vigilance. It called for collaboration with local communities and security agencies to curtail the terrorists’ activities.

Senate Recommendations

  1. Implement Early Warning Systems
The military was tasked with developing strategies to anticipate and prevent further incursions by the terror group.
  2. Community Engagement
Security agencies are to work closely with affected communities to strengthen surveillance and counter-terrorism efforts.
  3. Damage Assessment
The federal government was urged to deploy a team to evaluate the destruction caused by the terrorists and provide immediate relief to victims.

Two weeks ago, the terrorists raided multiple villages in Kebbi State, killing over 20 people and stealing livestock worth millions of naira.

The Senate also observed a minute of silence to honor those killed during these attacks.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed that Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists ambushed and killed five soldiers in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. However, troops retaliated, killing 30 terrorists in the confrontation, with reinforcements sent to secure the area.

The attacks underscore the need for robust security measures to address increasing terrorist activities within and across Nigeria’s borders.
