Nurses On The Move! Peter Obi Says They Shouldn’t Be Held Back From Japa

Speaking at St. Charles Borromeo College of Nursing and Midwifery in Onitsha on Monday, Obi, who made a monetary donation to the institution, emphasized the importance of education and healthcare as vital assets for the future.

With Nigeria’s population exceeding 200 million, Obi argued against restricting citizens from traveling abroad for better prospects. Instead, he encouraged leaders to focus on training more individuals, highlighting that foreign remittances could serve as a significant revenue source for the nation.

“What we are doing is not charity; we are investing in you. We must prioritize knowledge and health, as these are essential for the future. Investing in your education will pave the way for your success. Your profession is highly sought after globally,” he stated.

Obi urged the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to stop preventing individuals from leaving the country for better opportunities. He added, “Let’s educate our population. Those who wish to go should have that freedom, while those who choose to stay can do so. Diaspora remittance can also contribute to our economy.”

He further explained, “My motivation for donating is to enhance your lives. I am here to support you, not for personal gain. My children will not attend this university, and I could easily use this money to enhance my title, but that is not how we build a prosperous future.”

Obi concluded by stating his commitment to visiting the College of Nursing in Anyingba the following day to assist with their accreditation process.
