The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that only graduates who present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) will be eligible for mobilisation into the national service scheme.

According to Ireporter Online, the Director-General of the NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja, where key stakeholders gathered to review and strengthen accountability in the mobilisation process.

He explained that the policy is part of renewed efforts to curb certificate fraud and enhance the integrity and credibility of the NYSC mobilisation system across the country. Nafiu stressed that the directive aligns with the Federal Government’s requirement that all prospective corps members must obtain the NERD compliance certificate before being considered for national service.

The NYSC chief further urged Corps Producing Institutions nationwide to adequately sensitise students on the new requirement to ensure a smooth transition process and avoid complications during mobilisation.

He also emphasized that maintaining a transparent mobilisation system should not rest solely on the NYSC, calling on regulatory bodies, security agencies, and relevant ministries to collaborate more effectively through policy support, training, and enforcement mechanisms.

Nafiu added that stronger inter-agency cooperation would not only streamline the transition from tertiary institutions to national service but also reinforce public trust in the system.

He concluded that all stakeholders involved in the mobilisation process must work collectively to ensure a transparent, accountable, and efficient framework for prospective corps members.
