Peter Obi Threatens Legal Action Against Deji Adeyanju Over Alleged Defamation

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a legal threat against prominent Nigerian human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, over a series of allegedly defamatory posts made on social media.

According to IReporter Online, Obi’s legal team, through EJESIMEN & CO (Madiba Chambers, SAN), accused Adeyanju of repeatedly publishing derogatory remarks via X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms, aimed at damaging Obi’s reputation.

One of the posts specifically cited in the legal notice, made on August 21, alleged that Obi had stolen funds from the Anambra State treasury and used them to invest in a family-owned business. In the same post, Adeyanju claimed that Obi once attempted to offer him money under the guise of a “thank you for coming,” asserting it was “100% true.”

In response, Obi’s legal representatives are demanding a full public retraction and an unreserved apology from Adeyanju. Failure to comply, they warned, would result in a lawsuit.

According to IReporter Online, despite the legal notice, Adeyanju remains unfazed. In a post on his official Facebook page Wednesday night, he wrote:

“I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah.”

A long-time critic of Peter Obi, Adeyanju has consistently insisted that the former governor is unfit to lead Nigeria and is unlikely to ever become President. He has also engaged in numerous online clashes with Obi’s supporters — popularly known as the Obidients — due to his outspoken and controversial views.

In a more recent post, according to IReporter Online, Adeyanju doubled down on his position, stating that it is already too late for Obi to be elected President of Nigeria.
