Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has called on his supporters to vote for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming by-elections. Obi explained that the appeal is necessary because the LP currently has no candidates recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to an ongoing internal crisis.

In a statement shared on X, Obi highlighted that the by-elections, scheduled for August 16, 2025, will take place across 16 states, covering two senatorial seats, five federal House of Representatives seats, and nine state assembly positions. He urged members of the Obidient and COPDEM communities to back the ADC, describing it as a continuation of the “struggle for Nigeria.”

The development follows the exclusion of LP candidates nominated by the Julius Abure-led national working committee, amid the party’s leadership dispute. The Nenadi Usman faction of the LP had praised INEC for rejecting the disputed list and expressed hope that the commission will recognize candidates submitted by the lawful party leadership.
