Under the banner of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ogun State chapter, workers gather at the state high court and magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, barricading entrances and disrupting court proceedings.
Amidst the disruption, litigants and lawyers face delays as judges are unable to access court premises to fulfill their duties.
Chairman of JUSUN, Ogun State chapter, Olarenwaju Ajiboye, reveals the impetus behind the strike, citing the state government’s failure to address their demands, particularly the non-payment of the 40% peculiar allowance.
Ajiboye emphasizes, “Today, Ogun State judicial workers commenced a five-day warning strike to protest non-payment of 40 per cent peculiar allowance of judicial workers by the state government.”
He further warns of escalated action should the government fail to act, stating, “After the warning strike, if the Ogun State government fails to do the needful, the union will proceed on indefinite strike come 18th March 2024.”
The union’s grievances stem from the government’s alleged neglect despite previous engagement and ultimatums issued, highlighting a broader discontent among judicial staff.
As the strike unfolds, attention turns to the response of the state government and the potential impact on legal proceedings in Ogun State.
