Zamfara House Of Assembly Rocked By Suspensions Amid Impeachment Drama
In a stunning turn of events, seven lawmakers in the Zamfara House of Assembly wield their authority by suspending sixteen colleagues amidst a brewing impeachment saga targeting Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki…..READ ALSO Senate Drama Unfolds: Proposal To Extend Retirement Age Of National Assembly Clerk Sparks Controversy
Drama unfolded as the suspended lawmakers, emboldened by their numbers, had earlier moved to impeach Moriki last Thursday, citing his prolonged absence during a critical period of banditry resurgence in the state.
Following Moriki’s ousting, Bashar Aliyu Gummi was swiftly elected as the new Speaker, leading to an indefinite adjournment of proceedings.
However, Monday’s plenary session took an unexpected twist as Moriki reconvened the House with a skeletal seven-member attendance, bolstered by heightened security measures.
Accusations flew as Moriki’s faction condemned the actions of the sixteen lawmakers, alleging vandalism and disruption of assembly operations during last week’s tumultuous session.
Dismissing the legitimacy of the previous impeachment, Moriki’s camp urged residents to disregard rumors of his suspension, attributing the upheaval to external political interference aimed at destabilizing Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.
The suspension saga underscores the intense power struggle within Zamfara’s legislative circles, with implications for political stability and governance in the North-Western state.
