Okpebholo Vows Stronger Army Alliance To Crush Kidnapping In Edo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening its strategic alliance with the Nigerian Army in the ongoing battle against kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor gave the assurance while receiving the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, alongside senior military officers during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Benin City. He noted that the collaboration between his government and security agencies, particularly the Army’s 4 Brigade, has continued to deliver tangible results in efforts to curb insecurity.

Okpebholo praised the dedication and resilience of soldiers engaged in anti-kidnapping operations, observing that many personnel spend days combing forests and remote areas in pursuit of criminal elements. He commended their gallantry and sacrifice, stressing that their operations have restored hope, confidence and a sense of safety among residents in affected communities.

The governor assured the Army of sustained support, especially in bolstering Forward Operating Bases positioned in strategic locations to enhance surveillance and rapid response. He also urged that his appreciation be conveyed to the Chief of Army Staff for what he described as strong leadership and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Edo State.

Addressing concerns over flooding at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport in Isihor, Okpebholo acknowledged the urgency of the situation but explained that immediate large-scale intervention may be limited due to the ongoing rainy season and procurement procedures. He referenced a similar flooding challenge previously encountered at Ekenwan Barracks, which the state government successfully addressed, assuring that authorities would assess conditions at Isihor and determine appropriate remedial measures.

In his remarks, Major General Shagaya expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued cooperation and support, pledging the Corps’ sustained collaboration with the administration’s developmental initiatives. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Edo State and across Nigeria.

The Army commander also appealed for government intervention to tackle persistent flooding in the Isihor and Ugbowo axis and sought expanded collaboration in capacity building, youth engagement, driver refresher programmes, catering services and firefighting support.
