Oleksandr Usyk Endorses Anthony Joshua To Overcome Tyson Fury As Mega Fight Negotiations Resume

According to Ireporter Online, unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has expressed confidence that Anthony Joshua can defeat Tyson Fury if the long-anticipated all-British heavyweight clash eventually takes place, as negotiations between both camps have reportedly resumed after several failed attempts over the years.

Usyk, who has previously defeated both Joshua and Fury twice, said his recent time training alongside Joshua has strengthened his belief in the former heavyweight champion’s readiness for a major comeback. Joshua has been working in Spain with Usyk as part of his return to full fitness following a December car accident that resulted in the deaths of two close friends. Although Joshua sustained only minor injuries, he has since resumed structured training.

Speaking to The Independent, Usyk praised Joshua’s commitment and intensity in camp, describing him as highly focused and determined.

“I believe. I look how Anthony is training. He’s a machine,” Usyk said.

He also called on fans to continue supporting Joshua during what he described as a difficult phase in his career, stressing the importance of loyalty in sport and drawing parallels with his long-time support for Dynamo Kyiv.

“Now I think Anthony needs help. People who support AJ, we must say: ‘Yeah, we do believe!’ Listen. I’m a fan of Dynamo Kyiv… sometimes my team loses but I don’t say, ‘you’re bad’. I say, ‘things happen, you must work, pray’. It’s normal because it’s sport,” he said.

Usyk further added that criticism during setbacks is unhelpful, noting that true support requires encouragement rather than negativity.

“We must help each other. If we don’t help each other we are not people. We are animals,” he added.

While acknowledging Joshua’s progress, Usyk noted that a full return still requires patience due to lingering effects from the crash.

“I think yes but we need a little bit of time because we know AJ has problem with body after crash but yes, he can return,” he said.

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated that Joshua is expected to have at least one more fight before a potential showdown with Tyson Fury. He also confirmed that Joshua is likely to continue training within Usyk’s camp for his next two bouts.

“I think, at the moment, he’s very happy obviously. The plan is those two fights, he’ll certainly be training with Usyk for those two fights,” Hearn said. “When he’s there and focused, I think it’s really good for him.”

Usyk himself is preparing for his own high-profile bout, scheduled to face kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven on May 23 at the Pyramids of Giza, with the WBC heavyweight title on the line.
