Ondo Lawmakers ‘Open Up’ On What They Collected To Remove Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa
Amidst ongoing debates surrounding the impeachment process of Ondo State’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the group “Ondo for Better Life” accused the state House of Assembly of accepting N5 million each to facilitate the deputy governor’s removal.
In response, the House dismissed the claim, labeling it a futile attempt to manipulate them.

The House initiated the removal process on Wednesday, citing allegations of gross misconduct during Aiyedatiwa’s tenure as Acting Governor in Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s absence.
The group’s coordinator, Mr. Felix Lewis, stated in Akure on Saturday, “We have credible information that they provided N5 million to each lawmaker supporting the impeachment to carry out the job. The House leadership and certain members of the state executive are overseeing the operation. They may deny it, but that is the truth. Let them come forward and swear if this is untrue.
“We know they may succeed, but this is not good for Akeredolu’s government, having his second deputy after Agboola Ajayi and then another one. This is detrimental to our democracy in Ondo State.”
However, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, refuted the allegation, asserting that it was impossible to manipulate the House.
He added, “How would that (bribery) even be possible? Let’s not discuss that. It’s a baseless attempt at manipulation. The problem here is that we challenged him (deputy governor). There is an allegation, and once you face an allegation, you provide your evidence and defend yourself.
“Furthermore, Mr. Governor isn’t even concerned with all this. What we’re doing is still within our purview and authority. So, in my opinion, there is an allegation before us, it bears someone’s name, the individual who held the position of deputy governor, so we can’t sweep it under the rug. We have to do the right thing and present it to him. It’s now up to him to review it one by one and defend himself.
“To say we were given N5 million is an attempt at manipulation, and we won’t be manipulated because we are doing our job.”
Meanwhile, legal practitioner Allen Sowore criticized the plan to remove the deputy governor, labeling the allegations against him as unfounded. He stated in a release, “I expected Governor Akeredolu to reprimand those government officials caught acting insubordinately – those who undermined governance in his absence. I’m referring to those who made it impossible for Lucky Aiyedatiwa to assume full control of the government as Acting Governor while the governor was away attending to his health in Germany.”
