Ondo Safe Since Owo Massacre, Says Gov. Aiyedatiwa

According to Ireporter Online, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has dismissed recent claims of terrorist attacks in the state. Speaking during a live media interaction, the governor stated that Ondo has not experienced any terrorist operations since the attack on Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo in June 2022.

Terrorist operations have not occurred after the Owo massacre. We have not experienced any terrorist attack. There have been isolated cases of kidnapping for ransom, which require engagement by security agencies,” he said. “The authorities must ensure that victims are safely released and pursue those responsible for these acts.”

Addressing reports of killings by suspected bandits in parts of the state, including the Agamo community, Governor Aiyedatiwa clarified that these are isolated incidents and not representative of bandit attacks. “Bandits typically kill indiscriminately and displace people without taking ransom. Unlike the Owo incident, these isolated cases involve limited criminal activity rather than organized terrorist operations,” he explained.

The governor emphasized the distinction between targeted kidnappings and large-scale terror attacks, highlighting the continued efforts of security agencies to maintain peace across the state.
