According to Ireporter Online, Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune has hinted that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface may miss out on a place in the matchday squad for their upcoming Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg, as competition for places within the team continues to intensify.

Boniface, who joined the club on loan during the summer transfer window, has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign. The forward recently returned from a knee issue and resumed training last week, but he was not included in Bremen’s 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart.

Ahead of the Augsburg fixture, Thioune explained that the return of key players such as Marco Friedl and Marco Grüll has increased competition in the squad, making selection more challenging.

“It was crucial for Victor to return. He performed well last week,” Thioune said via Bild. “With the return of Marco Friedl and Marco Grüll, I will have to make decisions that may exclude one or two players.”

The Bremen manager further noted that Boniface’s physical presence could be useful in the upcoming match but emphasized that other options are also available within the squad.

“I also have other physically robust strikers in the squad. For instance, we have greatly appreciated the contributions of Salim Musah. Jovan Milosevic possesses a similar profile,” he added.

Thioune stressed that final selection decisions will depend on performances in training, noting that every player must earn their place in the team.

“Therefore, I will await the final training session. Everyone must earn their place in the squad and their time on the field,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, in England, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi will miss his side’s Premier League trip to Arsenal after manager Marco Silva confirmed that the Nigerian international remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Iwobi sustained the injury during Fulham’s goalless draw against Brentford and was also absent in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Craven Cottage.

“Alex (Iwobi) is out still, plus Kevin,” Silva said during a pre-match press conference ahead of the London derby.

The 29-year-old has registered four goals and three assists in 27 league appearances this season.
