Kano Mass Wedding

The Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Yusuf, has announced plans to conduct another mass wedding programme aimed at supporting selected residents, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.

According to Ireporter Online, the initiative was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday, May 1, 2026, by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen, disclosed that preparations for the programme have commenced with the medical screening of 3,000 prospective participants, comprising 1,500 men and 1,500 women.

He explained that the screening exercise is designed to assess the health status of intending couples before the formalisation of marriages. The tests will reportedly include checks for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype compatibility, and drug use.

Aminudeen stressed that the medical evaluation is a compulsory requirement for all participants, warning that failure to comply would lead to disqualification from the programme.

He added that the mass wedding initiative is targeted at less-privileged individuals, including widows, divorcees, and unmarried women, as part of the government’s social welfare efforts.

He further revealed that the state government will provide financial and material support to beneficiaries. Each bride is expected to receive household items such as beds, mattresses, and pillows, in addition to ₦100,000 cash assistance to support small-scale business ventures, alongside a ₦100,000 dowry facilitated by the government.

The official noted that the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening family life and addressing socio-economic challenges among residents.
