One Dead, Several Injured In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident
One person was reported dead following a lone accident on Saturday at around 2:58 PM near Saapade, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. At least ten others sustained serious injuries in the crash, which involved a white Mazda bus with the registration number GGE 858 XY. The bus, allegedly speeding, suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to overturn.
According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the injured were taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere, while the deceased was transported to FOS Morgue in Ipara Remo.
In the official statement, Okpe revealed, “A total of 17 people were involved in the accident: eight male adults, seven female adults, one female child, and one male child. Unfortunately, one female adult died, and ten others were seriously injured, including two male adults, six female adults, and two children.”
The FRSC attributed the accident to speed, tyre burst, and loss of control.
Reacting to the incident, Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin urged drivers to be more cautious about their tyres, emphasizing the need to regularly check expiration dates, tread depth, and to avoid using substandard tyres. He noted that a tyre blowout could be better managed if the vehicle was traveling at a regulated speed.
