One Person Killed In Third Mainland Bridge Accident

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, resulting in the death of one individual on Saturday morning.

According to Naija News, the tragic incident involved a mini truck with registration number MUS 489 XS and a Toyota Camry with registration number KRD 470 JD.

LASTMA’s preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding during a downpour. In a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, noted that three others were rescued from the scene.

Giwa stated that LASTMA operatives responded swiftly to the accident, which occurred near the Unilag waterfront, heading towards the Iyana-Oworonsoki area.

Despite ongoing campaigns to educate motorists about speed limits, drivers continue to defy the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, Giwa said. He urged both commercial and private drivers to adhere to speed limits on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads in the state.

The deceased was promptly removed by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow on the bridge.

Giwa extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and emphasized the importance of road safety.
