“Only One State Will Be Created — And It’s Anioma,” Ned Nwoko Declares, Boasts Of Tinubu’s Support

According to reports, Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to approving the creation of Anioma State once the constitutional requirements are met.

Nwoko made this known during the Izu Anioma Towns Union event held in Abuja over the weekend, where the maiden Anioma Cultural Festival was officially unveiled.

The lawmaker noted that the campaign for Anioma State has gathered strong momentum, enjoying widespread legislative and political backing. He disclosed that as many as 97 senators had already signed a document supporting the proposal, describing it as an unprecedented show of unity and purpose.

Explaining the content of the bill he sponsored, Nwoko said the proposed Anioma State would comprise nine local government areas currently within Delta North — including four in Aniocha, Oshimili, two in Ika, and three in Ndokwa. He further mentioned that nearby communities, such as Igbanke, have also expressed interest in being incorporated into the new state.

“Only one state will be created in Nigeria, and that one state will be Anioma,” Nwoko confidently declared.

He noted that both the Senate and House of Representatives committees on constitutional amendment, which include members from all states, have reached a consensus that the South-East region deserves a sixth state to ensure equity and regional balance.

According to him, extensive consultations, lobbying, and strategic engagements are ongoing to ensure the realization of the dream. “We have done our homework. A lot of lobbying, contacts, and consultations are ongoing. Nothing is being left undone,” he affirmed.

Nwoko also disclosed that leaders from the South-East, traditional rulers, and Anioma stakeholders will converge in Awka, Anambra State, next weekend to formally adopt Anioma as the region’s preferred candidate for state creation.

He outlined the next procedural steps, which include forwarding the necessary documentation to the Presidency, obtaining approval from state assemblies and governors, and eventually conducting a national referendum.

Upon successful completion of these stages, Nwoko said President Tinubu would officially sign the document creating Anioma State in what he described as a “historic and momentous” ceremony.

Urging unity among Anioma indigenes, the senator assured them that their long-standing aspiration is within reach. “I did not start this struggle, but I will finish it. Anioma State will be the beginning of a new era,” he declared.
