Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Face or 2Baba, has revealed that his globally acclaimed hit track, African Queen, despite being a major breakthrough in his career, has also become a source of personal burden over the years.

According to Ireporter Online, the legendary singer made this revelation during a recent episode of an Entertainment & Lifestyle show, where he reflected on his career journey and the impact of the 2004 classic.

2Face, now 50, described African Queen as both a blessing and a challenge, admitting that while the song opened doors to international fame, it also came with complications that have lingered throughout his career.

In his words, “African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything.”

The track, released in 2004, remains one of Africa’s most celebrated love songs and was pivotal in propelling 2Face to global recognition, earning him prestigious awards such as the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards — making him the first African artist to achieve such a feat.

However, African Queen has continued to stir controversy over the years, particularly concerning its authorship. 2Face’s former bandmate, Blackface, has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song, a claim 2Face has consistently denied. He clarified in earlier interviews that the song was a collaborative effort during their time together as members of the defunct group, Plantashun Boiz.

The song’s legacy resurfaced in August 2025 when Billboard named African Queen the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time,” reigniting public debates about its origin and ownership.
