Opinion: The Greatest Blunder Committed In Kogi State Political Landscape.

2015 was a new direction in Kogi state political space that introduced new faces as players, one of which was David Edward Onoja.

He became the chief of staff to the governor and exalted the office of the chief of staff to the governor and the new direction policy of the administration, strengthened the office of the Chief of Staff over that of the deputy governor.

But Alas something interesting happened before the end of the 2015 political term.

Firstly, it’s clear that David Edward Onoja’s downfall can be attributed to his overconfidence and self-seeking behavior. As the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kogi State, he held a significant amount of power and influence, and it seems that he may have let this go to his head. Instead of making strategic decisions that would benefit the greater good, he made decisions that were more focused on his personal gain.

The incident with the deputy governor is a prime example of this. When the deputy governor was impeached, Onoja had the option of appointing Rosemary as the new deputy governor and thereby creating a historic moment of mentoring or influencing the first woman to hold that office. However, he chose to appoint himself to the position instead, leaving the office of Chief of Staff vacant. This decision not only showed his lack of strategic thinking, but it also highlighted his desire for power and influence.

Additionally, it seems that Onoja may have underestimated the importance of surrounding himself with individuals who can challenge and provide diverse perspectives. Instead, he surrounded himself with individuals who would only agree with him, leading to a lack of critical thinking and decision-making.

It’s also worth noting that the actions of leaders are recorded and can have consequences in the future. While Onoja may have thought that he was making strategic decisions that would benefit him in the short-term, these decisions may come back to haunt him in the long-term. As a leader, it’s important to consider the impact of your decisions not only in the present moment but also in the future.

Ultimately, the November elections in Kogi State may decide Onoja’s fate in the political landscape. However, it’s clear that he has learned a valuable lesson about the importance of remaining humble and making strategic decisions that benefit the greater good. If he can apply these lessons to his leadership style moving forward, he may be able to redeem himself and rewrite his legacy in a more positive light.
