According to Ireporter Online, the Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered an emphatic 4-0 victory over the Benin Republic in Uyo, highlighted by Victor Osimhen’s stunning hat-trick, yet the win was insufficient to secure automatic qualification from Group C for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Galatasaray striker Osimhen has reiterated his call for the team to maintain focus and ensure Nigeria returns to the World Cup stage after missing the last edition in Qatar. The squad is determined not to repeat past disappointments.

The team advanced closer to their goal following a decisive 4-1 win over Gabon in the playoff semi-final, booking a place in Sunday’s final against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat, where a single match will decide the fate of their World Cup aspirations.

Speaking after the semi-final, Osimhen expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities. “We can get it done. We have the squad to realize this dream of going to the World Cup because everyone wants to be there,” he said.

However, Nigeria will face a setback as midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is suspended for the decisive game due to accumulated yellow cards. Defender Chidozie Awaziem acknowledged the challenge posed by Ndidi’s absence but emphasized the squad’s depth. “We’re definitely going to miss him,” Awaziem told journalists in Rabat. “But we have other players capable of filling that role. We trust in everyone’s abilities, and whoever steps in will be expected to give their all so the team can secure victory.”

The Super Eagles’ performance on Sunday in Morocco will determine whether they progress to the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026, keeping Nigeria’s World Cup hopes alive.
