Osimhen Ranked Among UCL’s Biggest Match-Winners By UEFA
Victor Osimhen has secured his place among the UEFA Champions League’s most outstanding performers of the 2025/26 season after finishing joint-top in the Player of the Match standings released by UEFA.
According to official records published by European football’s governing body, the Galatasaray forward earned four Player of the Match awards during the campaign, matching the tally recorded by Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé, and Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincão.
The awards, determined by UEFA’s Technical Observer Group after each match, recognize the most influential player on the pitch and are presented immediately following games.
Osimhen’s impressive performances were instrumental in Galatasaray’s journey to the Round of 16. The Turkish champions advanced past Juventus in the knockout play-off stage before their European campaign came to an end against Liverpool, who secured progression with a 4-1 aggregate victory.
The Nigerian international delivered a series of standout displays throughout the competition. His first Player of the Match recognition came in Galatasaray’s narrow 1-0 win over Liverpool on Matchday Two. He followed that performance with another award after inspiring a 3-1 victory against Bodø/Glimt on Matchday Three, before earning a third accolade in a commanding 3-0 triumph away to Ajax on Matchday Four.
Osimhen’s fourth award was secured during the second leg of Galatasaray’s knockout play-off clash with Juventus. Despite the club suffering a 3-2 extra-time defeat and eventual elimination, his individual performance stood out enough to earn him the match’s highest honour.
Only four other players equaled Osimhen’s achievement of four Player of the Match awards during the season. Kvaratskhelia played a pivotal role in Paris Saint-Germain’s successful title-winning campaign, while Kane and Mbappé continued to showcase their quality on Europe’s biggest club stage. Trincão also emerged as a key figure in Sporting CP’s impressive run.
The Champions League season concluded with Paris Saint-Germain defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the final, with Vitinha receiving the Player of the Match award. However, in the overall season rankings, Osimhen finished level at the summit alongside Kvaratskhelia, Kane, Mbappé and Trincão, underlining his status as one of the competition’s most decisive players.
