Madugu Unveils 23-Player Super Falcons Squad As Camp Opens For Senegal Friendlies

Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, are set to commence preparations in Ikenne, Ogun State, ahead of their upcoming international friendly matches against Senegal after head coach Justine Madugu announced a 23-player squad for the encounters.

The two friendly fixtures are scheduled to take place on June 6 and June 8 at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne and are expected to play a significant role in Nigeria’s preparations for the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

According to official information released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), team captain Rasheedat Ajibade leads the squad, which also includes first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and experienced striker Asisat Oshoala. Midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, who recently returned to the national team after a lengthy absence, retains her place alongside forwards Francisca Ordega and Gift Monday.

The squad announcement also features several returning players. Forward Blessing Nkor has been recalled after her last appearance for the Super Falcons in a friendly match against France in November 2024, while midfielder Kafayat Shittu earned another call-up following an impressive season with her club in Turkey.

Defender Rofiat Imuran returns to the national team setup for the first time since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Home-based goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi and defender Sikiratu Isah were also included in the squad selected by Madugu.

Other notable names on the list include defenders Oluwatosin Demehin and Glory Ogbonna, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, as well as forwards Folashade Ijamilusi, Joy Omewa and Omorinsola Babajide.

In addition, Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Babajide secured places in the team following successful title-winning campaigns with their respective clubs.

Football authorities noted that the friendly matches will provide the technical crew with another opportunity to evaluate players and fine-tune strategies ahead of the continental tournament.

The Super Falcons, who are record 10-time African champions, have been drawn in Group C of the WAFCON tournament alongside Egypt, Zambia and Malawi. Senegal, meanwhile, will compete in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.

The competition is scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16 and will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
