Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed his intention to repurchase the rights to his music masters from Sony Music before retiring from the music industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer made the revelation during an appearance on The Long Form podcast, where he emphasized that ownership remains the most important aspect of any recording contract.

Davido noted that although he currently enjoys a favourable deal with his record label, regaining full control of his music catalogue is a long-term priority he intends to pursue before stepping away from the spotlight.

He further explained that owning his masters would enable him to preserve and pass on his musical legacy to his children after retirement.

“I have a good music contract. But the most important thing is ownership,” he said. “I plan to get my master’s back. With that, I can give each of my kids songs even after I retire.”

Davido also stressed that artists must pay close attention to the business side of the music industry, highlighting the importance of long-term ownership and financial control over creative work.
