Nigeria Outclass Jamaica As Super Eagles Successfully Defend Unity Cup Title
According to Ireporter Online, the Super Eagles of Nigeria extended their impressive form in the Unity Cup by defeating Jamaica 3-0 at the Valley Stadium in London to clinch the 2026 edition of the tournament.
The victory handed Nigeria a fourth Unity Cup title and reaffirmed their dominance in the competition, where they remain the only team to have won since inception. The final, a repeat of last season’s showdown between both sides, saw a much more decisive outcome this time, as Nigeria’s B team sealed the win in regulation time, unlike the previous edition that was decided on penalties.
Alhassan Yusuf starred with a brace, while captain Terem Moffi also got on the scoresheet to guide the Super Eagles to a comfortable triumph. Yusuf opened the scoring as early as the third minute after pouncing on a defensive error and a loose save from the Jamaican goalkeeper, calmly finishing to register his first international goal in 10 appearances.
Despite Jamaica’s efforts to respond—having qualified for the World Cup—the Nigerian side remained compact defensively and dangerous on the attack. The Super Eagles doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Moffi headed home a cross from Femi Azeez, further asserting Nigeria’s control over the contest.
Yusuf then capped off an outstanding performance in stoppage time with a brilliant solo effort to complete his brace and seal a dominant victory, highlighting the difference in quality between Nigeria’s second-string side and Jamaica’s World Cup-bound team.
The result also extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run against Jamaica to six matches, with three wins recorded in regulation time. The team, which finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, continues its strong run of form as it builds momentum for upcoming international fixtures.
The Super Eagles will now shift focus to their summer friendlies against Poland in Warsaw and Portugal in Leiria on June 10, as the coaching crew continues to evaluate players ahead of future competitive assignments.
