According to Ireporter Online, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has visited communities affected by the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area, assuring residents that ongoing efforts are focused on securing the safe release of all victims.

The visit, which took place on Saturday, May 30, came in the aftermath of a violent attack on two communities on May 15, 2026, during which suspected gunmen killed two residents and abducted several pupils and teachers from local schools.

The governor met with families of the victims, community leaders, and residents at L.A. Basic School, one of the affected institutions, where he expressed empathy over the distress caused by the incident and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rescue operation.

Makinde assured that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working round the clock to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers. He noted that daily security briefings and strategic reviews were being held with service commanders to monitor progress and adjust rescue operations where necessary.

Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, the governor noted that the abduction of nursery and primary school pupils was unprecedented and particularly alarming. He urged residents not to politicize the situation, stressing that unity and cooperation were essential at this critical time.
