Tell Yourself The Truth” – Wike Defends Tinubu, Throws Challenge To Rivers Residents

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Rivers State to objectively evaluate the benefits the state has received under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and compare them with what was obtained from previous governments.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday during a luncheon organised by the Rainbow Coalition in honour of aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections, Wike said Rivers State had enjoyed significant federal attention through appointments and developmental projects since the inception of the current administration.

According to political observers at the event, the former Rivers State governor maintained that the state had recorded notable gains within a short period under the Tinubu administration and urged residents to make fair comparisons with past governments. He stressed that the President had demonstrated goodwill toward the people of Rivers State and deserved continued support.

Wike argued that political decisions should not be influenced by ethnic or sectional considerations, insisting that competence, development and effective governance should remain the primary factors guiding voters.

Addressing members of the coalition, he urged them to prioritise grassroots mobilisation rather than relying heavily on media visibility, noting that electoral victories are determined at polling units, wards and local government areas. He expressed confidence in the strength of the Rainbow Coalition, describing it as a formidable political platform capable of influencing future elections in the state.

The minister also invited politicians across the state to join the coalition, assuring aspirants and political stakeholders that the group remained open to individuals seeking elective offices at various levels.

Wike further cautioned against attempts to create instability in Rivers State, stating that while the people of the state are known for their peaceful disposition, they would not allow anyone to undermine their interests or disrupt the peace of the state.

In a reconciliatory tone, he extended an invitation to aggrieved political actors to return and work with the coalition, promising forgiveness and cooperation in the interest of the state’s development. He emphasised that leadership should be judged by performance rather than place of origin, adding that the ultimate goal remains good governance and sustainable development for Rivers State.
