Pretty Mike: I Have Many Girlfriends, But I Still Want A Wife

Popular Lagos socialite and nightlife entrepreneur, Mike Eze-Nwalie Nwogu, has opened up about his family background, rise to prominence in Nigeria’s nightlife industry, legal challenges, business ventures, and aspirations for marriage.

Speaking in a recent interview, the businessman revealed that he comes from a privileged background and is the son of the late Dr. Basil Nwalie, a respected telecommunications pioneer and founding president of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria. He disclosed that although his father played a significant role in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, he deliberately avoided discussing his family’s influence publicly due to his upbringing and personal values.

According to the nightlife entrepreneur, he spent part of his childhood in Nigeria before relocating to the United States, where he completed his education, including studies at the University of Texas. Upon returning to Nigeria, he briefly ventured into corporate employment but resigned after a disagreement involving workplace practices he found unacceptable.

Pretty Mike explained that his passion for entertainment and social events ultimately led him into the nightlife business. He recounted how he partnered with his uncle in establishing Club Uno in Ikeja, a venture that quickly gained popularity through innovative event concepts and customer engagement strategies. He later became involved in the development of the Cubana nightlife brand in Lagos before launching his own establishment, Proxy Nightclub.

The socialite also shed light on the controversial public stunts that have become synonymous with his brand. He noted that the attention-grabbing displays were carefully designed to keep his name relevant in the public space and ensure the longevity of his personal brand. While some of the stunts generated criticism and backlash, he maintained that they were often intended to spark conversations and highlight underlying social issues.

Reflecting on one of his most discussed appearances involving pregnant women, he said the experience exposed him to the struggles faced by vulnerable expectant mothers, many of whom were dealing with abandonment, unemployment, and financial hardship. He added that the encounter changed his perception of societal attitudes toward pregnant women and inspired him to provide support for several of them.

Addressing another controversial stunt involving women on leashes, Pretty Mike stated that the display was widely misunderstood and generated petitions and public outrage. He said he later met with government officials to explain the concept and insisted that all participants were willing collaborators who were compensated for their involvement.

Speaking on the closure of Proxy Nightclub following a raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, he described the incident as one of the most difficult periods of his life, coming shortly after the burial of his father. He recalled that security operatives stormed the facility following allegations linked to a purported drug-themed event.

According to him, investigations eventually revealed that the substances in question were not found inside the nightclub itself but were allegedly linked to a security operative. He further stated that the matter resulted in significant financial losses, including months of business disruption, legal expenses, property damage, and extensive renovation costs. However, he expressed gratitude that the legal process ultimately ended in his favour, with the court reportedly discharging and acquitting him of all charges.

The businessman estimated that the closure cost his business billions of naira and disrupted operations for approximately nine months. Despite the setback, he said Proxy Nightclub has undergone major renovations exceeding ₦100 million and has resumed operations with new attractions, improved facilities, and enhanced entertainment experiences.

Pretty Mike also dismissed suggestions that he maintains a strained relationship with law enforcement agencies, insisting that he has always respected the law and views the experience as a valuable lesson that strengthened his resolve.

Beyond nightlife, he revealed that he has investments in construction, real estate, and other ventures, adding that the Pretty Mike brand itself continues to generate substantial income through public appearances and endorsements.

On his personal life, the socialite disclosed that although he has several romantic interests, he remains unmarried and hopes to settle down in the future. He described marriage and family life as important achievements and expressed his desire to build a stable home. According to him, character, attitude, and upbringing are more important qualities in a partner than physical appearance.

Looking ahead, Pretty Mike said he remains focused on expanding his business interests, creating wealth, and exploring opportunities in new sectors, including pharmaceuticals. He added that he has no plans to retire anytime soon and intends to remain actively involved in business well into old age.
