The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has strongly denied recent reports suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke has defected to the party, describing the rumour as false and malicious.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC urged the public to disregard what it called “desperate propaganda” being spread by the Adeleke administration.

“We want to state categorically and unequivocally that it is a lie from the pit of hell being told by the governor and his lieutenants,” Olabisi said.

He further stated that at no point did the Presidency exert pressure on Adeleke to join the APC, contrary to claims circulating in political circles. The party noted that any such move would require official approval and consultation at the highest levels of the party hierarchy.

“For a sitting governor to defect to our party, leaders such as National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, former Interim Chairman Bisi Akande, Minister Gboyega Oyetola, and Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal would all be involved. That has not happened,” Olabisi clarified.

The statement suggested that the source of the rumour may be internal allies of Governor Adeleke who are “wishfully speculating” about a defection.

According to the Osun APC, it is ironic that the same political actors who have previously attacked and criticized the APC are now attempting to portray the party as a desirable destination.

“It is indeed funny that it’s our party—previously vilified by the gatecrashers at the Bola Ige House—that is now being turned into a so-called beautiful bride,” the statement added.
