Osun Election: Thugs Disrupt Voting, Vandalise Vehicles
The voting process at the polling unit of African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Najeem Salaam in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State was disrupted on Saturday following a reported attack by suspected thugs.
According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at Unit 003, Iroyin Ayo Open Space, Ward 004, Ejigbo, shortly after Salaam and his wife cast their votes.
The disturbance reportedly forced voters, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, election observers and journalists to flee the area for safety. The situation also led to the temporary suspension of voting activities at the affected polling unit.
A video from the scene reportedly showed people running in different directions as the situation became tense. One of those caught up in the incident said some individuals were forced to climb over a fence while attempting to escape the unfolding violence.
The alleged attack was reportedly linked to a suspected political thug identified as “Big Hammer”, who was said to be associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The allegation could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.
Salaam was reportedly evacuated from the polling unit by his security personnel after the situation escalated. Electoral officials also reportedly left the location due to concerns over their safety.
The development adds to a series of reported disturbances and allegations of irregularities recorded at some locations during the Osun governorship election.
