Oversized Ambitions, Undersized Influence’ – PDP Takes Aim at Gov Eno Amid Exit Speculation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern over the reported defection plans of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, calling the move “very, very unfortunate.”

Speaking to Vanguard, Timothy Osadolor, the PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, urged Governor Eno to focus on championing electoral reforms instead of switching parties. He emphasized that having benefitted from the PDP for over 25 years, Eno has a moral obligation to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.

“It’s disheartening when individuals you once believed had substance and integrity turn out to be small men wearing oversized clothes and shoes,” Osadolor lamented. “There’s a real sense of disappointment when those you held in high esteem reveal their true, unimpressive nature. I’m curious to hear what explanation the Governor intends to offer for abandoning the party.”

He criticized politicians who defect out of fear rather than principle, insisting that true leaders should stand with the people and push for necessary democratic reforms.

Osadolor suggested that Governor Eno’s reported defection is driven by anxiety over being “rigged out” in the 2027 elections. “This is someone who has enjoyed the privileges of PDP membership for decades—he’s had ample opportunity to make a lasting impact. And now, driven by fear, he’s considering abandoning the party before the next election cycle,” he said.

He also raised serious questions about the current administration’s treatment of the opposition, asking whether party defection now serves as a shield for corrupt politicians.

“This development forces us to ask tough questions: Why does this presidency appear hostile to opposition voices? Are we supposed to believe APC governors are beyond reproach, or that political figures are suddenly absolved of wrongdoing the moment they cross over to the ruling party? Institutions must be rooted in strong systems, not in personalities,” he asserted.

Finally, Osadolor urged Governor Eno to think carefully about the legacy he wants to leave behind. As the leader of an oil-rich state, he said, Eno has the influence and platform to drive real electoral change.

“I appeal to the governor: reconsider. This is your chance to be remembered for doing the right thing. Use your position to rally Nigerians and demand credible electoral reforms that will make the 2027 elections free, fair, and transparent,” he concluded.
