Owo Massacre Benin National Congress, BNC Condoles With The People Of Ondo State, Sends Strong Message Across
Press Statement…
The culture of any society is shaped by the worst behaviour its leaders are willing to tolerate. And even if its leaders are culpable, no society will condole unwanton bloodletting by anachious marauders under any guise.
On the satanic Owo terrorist attack, the Benins will respond after an emergency Benin National Summit under the auspices of the Benin National Congress worldwide.
We cannot be talking about unity and democracy in Nigeria when one particular ethnic nationality continues to take laws into their hands killing and maiming fellow Nigerians with impunity while the government at the centre becomes an onlooker in the theatre of the absurd. We make bold to say that this is despicable and unacceptable in a 21st century Nigeria.
The point of departure is to render our condolences to the Government and people of Ondo State over the terrorist attack at the St. Francis Catholic church, Owo and to note that herdsmen atrocious activities has grown into a full scale terrorism, and there is no gainsaying that it constitutes an existential threat to the middle belt, the indigenous people of western Nigeria, the Benin ethnic nationality, the people of the Niger Delta and the Eastern part of the country.
In the midst of this chaos, the Federal agencies appear to be heavily handicapped in prevention, response, arrest and prosecution framework. All over Benin forests, kidnapping cells and shallow graves abound, at inexplicable loss to our people, while crippling investments and endangering social security.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. In the light of the aforementioned, the need for an emergency Benin national summit, which aim at a painstaking evaluation of the despicable impacts of this existential threat, as well a template on a sustainable action plan.
The State Government has made effort by setting up of a Vigilante network, the need for a sociocultural based action plan is increasingly expedient, in view of rising wave of herdsmen menance in our farm lands and highways.
From the days of the state of nature, security of life and property had been the ultimate purpose of Government, and where such is not guaranteed, self-help measures is inevitable. The mechanism for the summit will be made public when necessary, obviously, we will respond as an ethnic nationality after a holistic assessment and carefully thought-out action plan.
