PDP Crisis: Confidence In The Party Has Eroded Former Governor Suswam Critiques Leadership

During an appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, Suswam pointed out that the party’s persistent internal conflicts have alienated numerous stakeholders.

“There are numerous fundamental issues within the PDP that remain unresolved,” he remarked. “As a result, many individuals feel disconnected from the party, stemming from its leadership shortcomings.”

Suswam underscored the necessity for the PDP to reform its leadership and select a credible candidate if it aims to remain relevant in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“Public confidence in the PDP has waned completely,” he asserted. “This is a party that boasts a national presence, yet ineffective leadership has severely undermined its standing.”

He also criticized the trend of granting the party’s presidential nomination to the highest bidder, advocating for candidates who possess genuine commitment and capability.

These remarks follow the recent decision by PDP governors to refrain from joining any coalition or merger in preparation for the 2027 elections, which contrasts with the stance of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s candidate from the 2023 presidential election.

Additionally, Chief Bode George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, has expressed strong disapproval of Atiku potentially running again, cautioning that his candidacy could signal “the end of the PDP in Nigerian politics.”
