PDP Crisis: Party Leadership Concedes to Wike’s Demands in Reconciliation Move

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly agreed to key demands from former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as part of efforts to resolve internal conflicts ahead of the 2027 elections. According to party insiders, the PDP leadership has accepted Wike’s conditions including zoning the presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria and retaining Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

Sources within the party revealed that the concessions were made to prevent further factionalization and strengthen the party’s position in the South-South and South-East regions where Wike maintains significant influence. “The party has agreed to address everything Wike wants,” a senior PDP official stated.

The development comes as Wike’s once-powerful “G5” group – originally comprising five aggrieved PDP governors – has dwindled to just three members following the departure of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom. Political analysts suggest the PDP’s move aims to consolidate its base and prevent potential defections to rival parties.

Party stakeholders view the reconciliation as critical to the PDP’s 2027 electoral prospects, particularly in Southern states where Wike’s political machinery remains formidable. The agreement also reportedly includes honoring the existing zoning arrangement for party positions in the South-South and South-East regions.
