PDP Seeks Unity: New Talks Begin Amid Party Rift
According to Ireporter Online, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated a renewed reconciliation process aimed at resolving internal disputes and restoring unity among aggrieved factions.
The development was confirmed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and supported by PDP governors. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Turaki stated that leaders from opposing factions have begun engaging in dialogue to address their differences.
He emphasized, “I can confirm that leaders of both sides, as of today, are working towards solutions. So reconciliation is ongoing, and all hope is not lost.” Turaki further noted that the discussions have already started yielding positive results, adding that individuals who had sought to undermine the process were excluded from the talks.
Turaki urged party supporters to remain calm and avoid inflammatory statements or actions that could derail the reconciliation efforts.
The PDP crisis escalated on Tuesday when governors elected on the party’s platform distanced themselves from the alleged consensus selection of a national chairman and national secretary by a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The governors indicated they would seek legal remedies and demand a review of the selection process ahead of the party’s national convention.
Senior PDP members aligned with Turaki’s NWC confirmed they would explore all legal avenues to resolve the ongoing dispute and restore cohesion within the party.
